Sound Masking Technology - an effective solution for reducing noise indoors

KT Serviss offers a new and effective sound masking solution for masking noise in public spaces and reducing environmental noise in rooms with tens or even hundreds of people in them.

This is a very widespread and big problem for people working in open office plans or in coworking spaces, as well as for people working in large office spaces -- for example in a call centre; in the telemarketing, banking and hospitality industries; or in medical institutions, where private conversations are held between employees and patients. Nearby noises and conversations have a negative effect on employee productivity and they can also make customers uncomfortable.

Employees who spend most of their working day in a shared office space together with dozens of other people admit that simultaneously held conversations and environmental noise often make it difficult to focus on their job, to correctly hear and understand what is being said to them, and to appropriately pass sensitive information to a client, avoiding it being overheard by other people nearby.

KT Serviss offers an effective solution to this problem, developed by Cambridge Sound Management. Their QtPro system consists of a signal generator, connecting cables and speakers which are systematically located in specific places of the room, in order to mask background noise and other sounds. This solution allows for multiple people to work simultaneously and productively in the same room, with their conversations only to be heard in a specific area. The sounds of people talking outside this zone or noise from technical appliances will only be heard as background noise, which the human brain will automatically ignore, thus allowing people to focus more easily on their tasks.

Prior to installing a sound masking system, KT Serviss specialists will investigate the technical details of the room -- such as its area, the number of people working in it, and the location of their workplaces -- in order to ensure the best results. The QtPro system produces a low-level background sound, customised for blending many different noises into a single, homogeneous mass of sound that the human brain would easily dismiss as unnecessary information. This sound is similar to the sound of airflow, allowing a more focused reception of sound in each unique area of the room and making other conversations and noises less distracting.

In order to better understand the way this system works, let’s use the example of a conversation between two people in a kitchen: the moment one person turns on the water tap and water begins to flow, the other person’s voice becomes more difficult to hear as the running water is closer and louder than the other’s voice. The QtPro system works by a similar principle, producing sound that suppresses conversations and other noises in your vicinity and thus creating a smooth acoustic environment that everyone appreciates.

The QtPro system can be arranged according to the unique features and size of any indoor space. The room gets divided into appropriate zones, with a size of 9 m2 up to 1115 m2 (and even more), adjusting volume levels for each specific area of the room.

Professionals estimate that the profits generated by the growth of employee productivity could reach several hundred or even several thousands of euros a year, depending on the number of employees and the size of the space.

In addition to sound masking, the system can also be used for voice announcements and for playing background music through the built-in audio inputs on the central unit.

QtPro system solutions are used by many different institutions and companies around the world, such as Accenture, Autodesk, Apple, Coca Cola, University of Vermont Medical Centre, William College Library in Massachusetts (USA), and others.

The QtPro system is developed by Cambridge Sound Management, a USA technology company that specialises in producing audio and acoustic products.

The QtPro system is compatible with Biamp VOCIA and TESIRA systems.
